BASS
Lucy Shaw is a professional musician who plays double bass and bass guitar. She works across different genres of music, recording bass, composing and arranging.
As a session double bassist Lucy plays with many orchestras including the Royal Opera House, and works regularly at studios like Abbey Road recording music for film scores including Wicked, Barbie and James Bond. She recorded the orchestral and jazz bass parts for Paddington in Peru and, more recently, for K-Pop Demon Hunters.
As a bass guitarist Lucy joined the band Squeeze in 2015, recording bass and arranging the orchestra for the album Cradle to the Grave – featured in the Danny Baker TV show starring Peter Kay. During this period Lucy and the band performed on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. Lucy recently appeared in the Amy Winehouse film Back to Black as a jazz double bassist.
Lucy’s theatre experience began performing in a theatre music group called The Gogmagogs, who commissioned composers and script writers to create musically and physically demanding works, which the seven string players brought to life with the theatre director Lucy Bailey.
Lucy works as a leader and educator, and is the musical director and composer for Curious Families, a company that transports the challenges of everyday life through creativity and innovation. Previous commissions have included shows and concerts for Museum of London and LSO Discovery.
